Overbite or Underbite

Overbite and underbite are malocclusion problems that negatively impact not only a person’s appearance but also the way the food is chewed.

Overbite happens when the incisors or the upper teeth stick out far above the bottom teeth. When it’s the reverse, the condition is described as an underbite. The general term used to describe both conditions is bad bite.

The treatment for overbite or underbite depends on the severity of the case. Some may require prolonged use of braces, teeth extraction or surgery on the jaws. Those who are opposed to the use of metal braces may opt for clear aligners called Invisalign.
