During the smile analysis, the dentist determines if the patients teeth are crooked, misaligned or crowded, if there are any missing teeth, if there are any discolouration, if there are any gaps or spaces between the teeth, or if the smile is gummy (showing more gum tissue). The dentist likewise checks if there are any gray, black or silver (mercury) dental fillings in the patient’s teeth.
Another important part of the smile analysis is the evaluation of whether the midline of the patients two front teeth is centered in relation to his face and nose and if the gums are even and in line (higher on some teeth and lower on others). Another important thing to look into is if the gums have receded or appear red or puffy.
Based on the smile analysis results, the dentist recommends appropriate dental procedures to address problem areas. For instance, dental veneers or orthodontics may be recommended to improve the patients teeth and smile.
