Crowns & Bridges

What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown completely covers up a tooth that has been badly damaged and which has lost much of its original structure. You may need a crown if your tooth has significant decay or has perhaps been damaged due to trauma. The idea of a crown is to protect the tooth, restoring its structure so it looks like a natural tooth and can be used for eating. Here at Lakeside Dental Spa, we often suggest our patients have metal-free crowns as these produce the best aesthetic results. Dental Crowns & Bridges

What is a Dental Bridge?

Dental Crowns & Bridges replace missing teeth by bridging the gap left behind with replacement teeth called pontics. The pontics are attached to crowns that are fitted over the teeth adjacent to the gap. Bridges can be made from the same materials as crowns as the very latest metal-free materials can be used to create large, yet strong bridges replacing multiple teeth.

What is a Metal-Free Crown or Bridge?

Unlike traditional metal-based dental crowns and bridges, porcelain crowns and bridges are totally made of porcelain. These restorations can be made to look lifelike to match the appearance of the surrounding teeth (in terms of texture, colour and translucency) unlike metal-based crowns and bridges which are notorious for their dull, lifeless look. Once in place, porcelain crowns and bridges are usually not noticeable. Dental Crowns & Bridges
