What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is an excellent way to restore your perfect smile and at the same time protect your oral health. It completely covers up a tooth that has been badly damaged and which has lost much of its original structure. You may need a crown if your tooth has significant decay or has perhaps been damaged due to trauma. The idea of a crown is to protect the tooth, restoring its structure so it looks like a natural tooth and can be used for eating. Here at Lakeside Dental Spa, we often suggest our patients have metal-free crowns as these produce the best aesthetic results.

What is a Metal-Free Crown?

Unlike traditional metal-based dental crowns, we now use crowns that are totally made of porcelain. These restorations can be made to look lifelike to match the appearance of the surrounding teeth (in terms of texture, colour and translucency), unlike metal-based crowns and bridges that are notorious for their dull, lifeless look. Once in place, porcelain crowns and bridges are usually not noticeable.
