What Causes Tooth Decay?
Decay is a disease where bacterial processes damage hard tooth enamel.
These tissues progressively break down, producing dental cavities. If left untreated, the disease can lead to pain, tooth loss, infection, and in severe cases even death.
Today, decay remains one of the most common diseases throughout the world. Initially, it may appear as a small chalky area that may eventually develop into a large cavity.
How Can You Prevent Tooth Decay?
Prevention is generally very straightforward, involving a combination of professional dental care and oral care at home. We like to see our patients at six monthly intervals to check for any signs of cavities, sometimes using DIAGNOdent, a device that helps us accurately diagnose the first signs of decay.
Our hygienist will gently clean your teeth, removing any hardened plaque, reducing your risk of cavities. She can also talk to you about the best way to maintain good dental health at home. Ensuring you brush thoroughly twice a day and floss once-a-day will remove decay causing bacteria from your teeth. For more information, speak to our friendly dental team on (07) 4191 4787. Our dental practice is located at 8/6-8 Liuzzi St, Pialba Hervey Bay QLD 4655.
