The best way to let you kids eat candy this Halloween

Many kids are looking forward to Trick or Treating. If the thought of all that sugar is sending shivers down your spine, it’s worth strategising on how to handle it.

Some parents let their kid eat as much as they want, just for that night, before rationing the remainder. It isn’t such a bad idea, as all the sugar is eaten quite quickly, reducing the time their teeth are exposed and limiting the damage. When children snack on sweets frequently and make them last a long time, their teeth are exposed to sugar for longer, increasing the damage to their teeth.

Another idea is to ensure a child eats a healthy and filling meal before or after Trick or Treating, so they are less able to indulge in large amounts of the sweet stuff. Some parents allow their children to eat sweets every day, and interestingly research shows their calorie consumption of sweets can decrease, as limiting it can make them crave it more.

Whatever happens this Halloween, please make sure your kid brushes and flosses thoroughly afterwards.
