Winter Tips for a Sensitive Mouth

As temperatures drop, it can affect your dental health. Knowing how winter can affect your oral health can help you avoid many of these problems.

Canker Sores

Canker sores or mouth ulcers can flare up during winter, especially if you like to eat a lot of spicy and acidic food. If you develop a canker sore, try rinsing your mouth with a warm saltwater rinse to ease the symptoms.

Chapped Lips

Protect your lips against the wind and cold by applying a lip balm with a good SPF factor to protect against UV rays. You can soothe sore lips by applying a thin layer of petroleum jelly.

Sensitive Teeth

Breathing in on a cold day or consuming very hot drinks can cause tooth pain. Using toothpaste for sensitive teeth can help, but ideally, get a checkup to make sure you don’t have an untreated cavity that is causing this problem.

Gum Problems

The winter can weaken your immune system, leaving your gums more vulnerable to infection and inflammation. Make sure your gums they healthy by practising good oral hygiene.

Dry Mouth

Cold, dry winter air can lead to dry mouth, where you produce less saliva. Make sure you drink plenty of water and if needed, place a humidifier in your home.
